Founded in 2012, influenced by puppies and cheeseburgers, inspired by Drake — all of this rolls up into a nice package known as The Chainsmokers.

With just under 8 million YouTube subscribers and nearly 4 billions views these guys are definitely not tiny. We reached out to Alex & Drew to find out how they go about getting their music out to the masses.

The Chainsmokers have a long history of working with blogs:

“We [started out] on blogs and they did a great service for us so we feel its important to always keep ourselves and our music grounded in them. […] We built relationships with a lot of these sites since day one so we love staying in touch!”

It’s cool that such a big act still stays true to its roots — although they tell us many of those same blogs “now consider [them] too well known for their site.”

Over the years, new methods for reaching blogs have opened up. Whereas before, The Chainsmokers had to “send 2,000 emails to each blog trying to stand out,” now they make use of platforms like SubmitHub to streamline the process.

When asked about getting there music “out there,” they said:

“There is no secret, you’ve just got to make good music, and you have got to put it out. And you cant just stop there with one song. Sometimes your first song might be the best, but if you keep putting-out music, people are going to dig back and they will discover your stuff.

But the best marketing you can have is word of mouth and that only happens by sending it out there…”

So, now that we know all their secrets, what more can they give us? How about an album called Memories… Do Not Open, coming out April 7th and a big tour to follow!

Give their song “Paris” a listen:
